Hampshire NHS doctor recognised for her outstanding leadership in research
A doctor from Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust (SHFT) in Hampshire has been commended by The National Institute for Health Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN) and Royal College of Physicians (RCP) for her outstanding leadership in research.
Dr Hermione Price, Consultant Diabetologist at the SHFT and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton was presented her award on Wednesday 20 October at a special ceremony in Liverpool.
Dr Price has made a significant contribution to diabetes research, having expanded her team and attracted a large amount of commercially sponsored research to the Wessex region, which covers Dorset, Hampshire, South Wiltshire and Isle of Wight. Her work has meant that participants are receiving cutting edge diabetes care from a team of expert researchers in the field.
Developing the next generation of researchers is a part of the role that Dr Price particularly enjoys. She has supported fellow clinical researchers to complete their PhDs and is currently supervising three PhD students at universities in the Wessex region.
Since the outbreak of coronavirus, many members of Southern Health’s diabetes team were seconded to support COVID-19 vaccine research. Despite this, through the support and leadership of Dr Price, the team have been able to continue to work on their portfolio of diabetes research.
Looking ahead, Dr Price hopes to enhance the care of people living with diabetes by creating more opportunities for them to take part in research.
Dr Hermione Price, Consultant Diabetologist at the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton said:
"I am honoured to have received this award and to have been recognised for my work towards building diabetes research over the past seven years. I am proud to have embedded a culture of research within the clinical diabetes service and am confident that this will only continue.
