PACE - Police & Criminal Evidence Act (Appropriate Adult)

Aims to: Familiarise staff with the implications of the Appropriate Adult role as required in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and associated codes of practice. This is in relation to detention, questioning and identification of adults with mental health difficulties or learning disabilities in police custody.

This is a lecture style event with the opportunity to ask questions and discuss.

Learning objectives: By the end of the day you will be able to:

  • State legislation requirements of PACE Act
  • List duties of an Appropriate Adult
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of supporting a person in interview
  • Understand how knowledge can be applied in practice

Audience: Key workers and care co-ordinators who may be asked to attend a police interview to act as an ‘appropriate adult’. This could also be used as refresher training.
