Your Opportunities

Becoming a reservist is a great way to experience the range of health and social care career opportunities that suits your lifestyle and circumstances.

Work in health or care already?

If you work in health and care already you are very likely to have the skills and experience needed.

  • Maybe you want to earn some extra money?
  • Maybe you work part-time, but could do an extra shift or two?
  • Maybe you are ‘bank staff’ employee for an NHS or social care organisation?

There are many roles that you can undertake as a reservist.

You could carry out a similar role to your own in a different area (or sector) or you could experience what it’s like in a role totally different to your current one.

For example, if you work as an administrator but want to feel “closer” to patient care, you might want to undertake a ward befriender role in your Reservist role.

Please note: you are not limited to one field of work within your Reservist role, there are many different shift types that you can pick up in various areas if you’d like to do so.

Retired from health and care?

  • Give something back to your community

Student on a health or care related course?

Earn extra money during term-time and over the long Christmas holiday.

Gain experience and skills to get set for a job in health or care when you complete your course.

Perhaps you are completing a nursing degree, or an access to health course. You can join the reservist workforce to complement your studies and gain experience. Roles such as Clinical Assistant will allow you to gain practical experience in a health or social care setting.
