Cardiovascular

Overview

In addition to our work in diabetes, a major driver of cardiovascular disease, we also work extensively in the prevention of hypertension and lipids.

Improving outcomes for patients at risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a priority for the NHS with six million people in England living with CVD, causing one death every four minutes The financial cost is also significant, with £16 billion spent on CVD every year.

We work with local clinical commissioning groups and health care providers to support improved detection of cardiovascular disease, improve the quality of life of adults with cardiovascular disease, promote appropriate therapies for those at risk of stroke and optimise therapy to reduce stroke risk with minimum risk of bleeding. We also promote patient involvement in decision making as per NICE guidance (QS93 July 2015).
