About this event

As the fourth year anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy approaches, the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), as guardian of the Grenfell Tower site, will be supporting bereaved families and former residents of Grenfell Tower and Grenfell Walk who wish to pay their respects inside the site cordon on and around 14 June.

We understand that this is a very difficult time for many people, and you may prefer to mark the day privately. For those who do wish to attend, as in 2020, we will be taking account of the latest government guidance on COVID-19 including social distancing. This is to keep everyone safe both inside and outside the site cordon.

We have worked together with the NHS and local Public Health to provide the following options for you and your family to consider:

  • Access to the site can be provided on Sunday 13 June for groups of up to 10 people, including children accompanied by a parent/guardian. This will give you the opportunity to lay your own flowers within the site and to pay your respects. Please note, these will not be private visits and there could be up to four other groups visiting at the same time.
  • Access to the site can be provided on Monday 14 June for groups of up to 10 people , including children accompanied by a parent/guardian. This will give you the opportunity to lay your own flowers within the site and to pay your respects. Again, please note, these will not be private visits and there could be up to four other groups visiting at the same time.

Next steps

There is no obligation to attend the site, but if you would like to, please follow the instructions on this website. The ’frequently asked questions’ section below has more information about what you can expect on your visit.

We encourage everyone who wants to attend to book a 30-minute slot in advance. This is because there is a maximum number of people who can visit the site safely at any one time. In line with government guidance, we also need to reduce the possibility of people queuing outside. We appreciate that the needs for each individual and family will be different, and we will try to be as flexible as possible.

If you do attend the area outside the site cordon, including the memorial wall, we recommend that you follow social distancing guidelines and wear a face covering if you are able to do so.

We are working closely with NHS partners to ensure those who wish to visit can do so safely and sensitively. NHS staff will be available on the day, and if you have any concerns or would just like to talk about how you are feeling, please call 020 8637 6279. The team would be happy to speak to you.

We want to support all families wishing to visit the site to do so, however, it is important that we keep everyone safe. Please do not attend if you or anyone in your group has received a positive COVID-19 test, has been advised to self-isolate or is displaying any of the following symptoms:

• a high temperature

• a new, continuous cough

• a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste

Questions & Answers

Why are you offering access to the site this year?

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic means large gatherings around the Tower should still be avoided. However, we understand families may like the opportunity to pay their respects in person.

Wil I be safe while on site?

The Tower is continually monitored and remains stable. Air quality monitors around the site continue to show that the risk to public health is low. There will be no onsite works during the period of access, but there are a range of hazards which could result in slips, trips and falls. You can help us to keep this risk low by wearing appropriate clothing and footwear. In addition, we have a range of measures to ensure social distancing can be maintained throughout your period of access.

I have mobility issues; can I still arrange a visit?

Yes, please use the booking instructions to book a time.

Can I bring someone with me who doesn’t live with me?

Yes. Up to 10 people can come at a time.

I want to visit on 14 June at the same time as another group, can I do this?

Please call us on 07762 241 641 or 07762 242 412 to discuss this and we will try to support this request.

Can I book to visit at another time?

The priority is that we keep everyone on site safe, to do that means stopping on site safety works. Attendance at other times is therefore harder to accommodate.

Can I go inside the Tower on the visit?

No, we are only able to accommodate safe access to the site and this does not include access into the Tower.

Can I change the slot I have booked?

Please call us on on 07762 241 641 or 07762 242 412 and we can help support this where possible.

How will the visit work on the day?

Once you have booked, you will be given a reference number. On arrival, you will be registered (this is for safety so we know who is on site in case of an incident) and be asked to wear a facemask, unless you are exempt from wearing one. You will follow a safe route through the site, which will be marked to help you observe social distancing. There will be areas for you to pause, reflect and to lay flowers or other tributes.

What can I expect to see when I visit?

Access to the site means you will be closer to Grenfell Tower than is usually possible. The Tower has been wrapped so you will not see the damaged structure, but you will see it from angles that you are not used to. There will be staff present for your safety.

Who else will be on the site when I visit?

For your safety and wellbeing, CNWL (Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust) and NHS staff, site security staff will be present. It is also likely that there will be other families on site.

Why are visits arranged for 30 minute time slots

The 30-minute time slots are just a guide. We appreciate that the needs for each individual and family will be different, and we will try to be as flexible as possible. However, the slots help enable as many families as possible to visit the site within COVID guidelines and avoids large queues outside the site.

If I feel unwell on the visit, who will be there to support me?

Staff from the NHS will be on site should you require support.

Where is the entrance and exit to the site visit?

Access to the site is via Station Walk near Latimer Road Tube station.

Will parking be available?

There is no allocated parking available. If you have mobility issues or need to attend via car for some other reason then please mention this at the time of booking and we will try to facilitate.

If I want to have flowers laid in the Tower, who will do this for me?

As in previous years, flowers will be taken into the Tower and placed in the locations you indicate.
