12 persons killed as vigilante battles bandits in Plateau villages

Twelve (12) persons have been killed in a clash between bandits and vigilante members in Zak community, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to a source, the incident happened around 9am on Sunday and led to the killing of nine bandits and three vigilante members.

A spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major Ishaku Takwa, a multi security taskforce maintaining peace in the State, could not say the number of those affected but confirmed the incident.

He explained that the troops repelled the attack.

Bandits had reportedly issued quit notices to residents of Sabon Zama, Gindin Dutse, Anguwan Tsohon Soldier, Anguwan Yuhana and Anguwan Mangu villages of Wase to vacate their areas or face a war.

DAILY POST reports that the quit notices given to the residents made many people in the affected areas flee to Wase town for fear of attack.

Zak, the community where the incident happened, is about 40 kilometers from Wase town, the headquarters of Wase Local Government Area of the State.
