Kaduna residents lament household theft, ask El-Rufai to intervene

Kaduna State residents have called on Governor Nasir El-Rufai and security chiefs to address the rising number of household thieves in the state.

Residents of Kurmin Gwari, Kakuri, General pump and Kakuri bus-stop, Sabon Tasha, and Maraban Rido in Chikun and Kaduna South local government areas, while weeping over bandit attacks, said they cannot sleep in the night because of household criminals.

According to a resident in Kurmin Gwari, a police officer who did not want his name mentioned, “they came while we were fast asleep, tied our doors, went straight to the kitchen where I usually park my motorcycle, took it away, stoves, plates and even pot we are using in cooking food.”

Also, a resident in Kagoro Street, Kurmin Gwari, said on Monday, while it was raining and his family was inside their room, thieves made away with their grinding machine, meter, knife and toilet bucket.

A newly-wedded couple in Sabon Tasha also told DAILY POST that on Yakasi street, some thieves made away with the wrappers the bride used during her traditional wedding as well as other belongings around 1 a.m.

Dr. Musa Abdullah, a resident in Kurmin Gwari, called on Governor El-Rufai to beam his searchlights on household thieves, as they may graduate to be armed robbers and bandits, adding that learning to steal may force them to embrace banditry and other vices.

Arc Shuaibu Akpa Onitcha Igo, called on security agents to help tackle the incident of kidnapping, killing and demand for ransom. He blamed the Federal Government for the increase in several attacks.

“The unemployed youths are too many for the government to control, or provide them employment opportunities,” he said.

According to him, if farmers are protected, allowed to go back to the farm, youths are engaged, everybody doing one thing or the other, no criminal will penetrate Kurmi Gwari without arrest.
