I am Permanently proud of this little boy of ours but writing this now, my heart has never been so full!  

Since Oscar's diagnosis we have raised him to never give up, be positive and to always keep smiling! The strength and courage he shows is all him and what he has achieved thus far, is incredible! Even, with the people around him not always understanding his needs. He manages to appreciate every person and there needs at 6 years old!

Lockdown has pushed many peoples boundaries. Emotionally, Physically and financially. Peoples lives have been affected in ways that none of us could have imagined a few years or even months before COVID hit. Like so many, we are a very close knit family and not being surrounded (physically) by the people we love has been really tough!

Having such a bond with our family and friends is particularly special and their support over the last few years ( Pre Covid ) and during has been so heartwarming and appreciated. It's so lovely to see that Oscar understands that kind of support and love in his own little ways. He shows this through his caring and kind nature and passion to help others. 

From the minute he was born and throughout his little life, Oscar has been subject to many hurdles. Physically, emotionally and as his parents it's not always been easy to see. However, throughout it all, his determination and strength is what has kept us all going! As a family we are stronger together. His motivation is our motivation and vs versa!

COVID is here, yes! But people haven't stopped being diagnosed with cancer. They haven't stopped having premature babies. People haven't stopped dying. Leaving loved ones behind in such unprecedented circumstances. The world as we know it is still happening, its just taken a back seat. Hidden behind the uncertainty of the pandemic that life has become consumed in. 

Haircuts!! Men, women, children, even pets! One of life's small pleasures that we can all probably admit now, we took for granted. During lockdown, some people have discovered a new found talent for cutting hair. Some not so much ( Ben will confirm, i am part of the not so much party ) cutting hair is certainly not my forte at all!! Others, like myself, have embraced the roots. Convincing myself, i can pull it off. By saying its a new spin on balayage and its a new look i'm trailing!

Anyway, there is a point to all the random hair talk! Oscar has been inspired and in turn has inspired me to help him! We have seen and heard so many stories of people donating hair to the 'Little Princesses Trust' whilst raising money for causes/charities close to them, in the process. An amazing idea and fabulous way of supporting and helping individuals and their families. Particularly now, more than ever, in the times we are living in! 

Here's where the inspiration really kicked in. Oscar has had to deal with some mild, but there, looks or questions about his disability. So obviously, as parents we have always encouraged him to believe that everyone has there own look and no matter what your appearance, its who you are and how you conduct yourself thats important!

Cue Oscar! "Well then mum if thats the case why cant i grow my hair and cut it off for all the princesses?" Right in that moment after id digested what he said. I agreed. Why cant you? His hair is permanently growing. My hair cutting skills really are not acceptable. And this is my 6 year old little boys, selfless way of helping others at its best! Who cares if boys have long hair now. If girls can do it, why cant he? He grows his hair because he can and wants to give back. Who can argue with that? Also in his words "if looking like a girl for a little while, means i can help other children, i don't mind" plus i can go in to my class in disguise and pretend i am the new kid!

So here we are. Hair bands and bobbles ordered. Just-giving page live, for the most amazing unit in the hospital. All we need now is those beautiful locks of his to grow. The donations to come pilling in. And Oscar can start achieving his goal. To make little girls or boys feel better by giving them hair! And to give back to the most amazing unit that helped him and his little sister in their most crucial time of need. Giving mummy and daddy the most amazing gift of all. Their children's lives! Plus there kindness when it was needed the most!

Any donation big or small will mean so much to Oscar. Whilst Teaching him that helping others and putting a smile on there face is what he does daily for being so amazing without even realising it!!!!

We are looking forward to being able to post updates as they happen! Oscar is looking forward to having a hair growing competition with his little sister Ella :)
