When Citizenship is Denied: The Case of Gendered Citizenship in Lebanon
This op-ed discusses Lebanon’s gendered citizenship laws, which discriminate against women and their children by granting citizenship solely through paternal lineage. It highlights the resulting inequalities in access to education, healthcare, employment, and political participation, especially for marginalized communities. Despite regional reforms, Lebanon maintains this discriminatory system, undermining principles of democracy and human rights.
