My Story

Hi there,

You may or may not know, but my life changed forever Easter weekend in 2015. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and admitted to A&E with ketoacidosis (a life threatening condition when your body is not creating enough insulin). Not ideal I hear you say when it's the best weekend of the year to enjoy lots of chocolate :-)

Some may see this diagnosis as a curse, but I was somewhat relieved as it explained why I was showing the 4 T symptoms (Tired, Thirsty, Thinner, Toilet) and it meant I could start my treatment and recovery.

From the outset of embracing my new way of life, I was and am determined for diabetes to not dictate my life and stop me achieving what I want to. That's not always easy...navigating hypos, hypers, injecting insulin numerous times a day and having to think about it 24/7 and 365 days of the year. It's relentless!

But that's where I feel fortunate. Having grown up with a father who's had Type 1 for nearly 50 years of his life, I was well educated on the condition, the high and lows (literally) and how it can impact your life.

Not everyone is so lucky as me and haven't always had the support they need. Many people living with diabetes are severly affected by complications that can include amputations, nerve damage, heart attack and strokes to name a few.

Please support me in my journey fundraising vital funds for Diabetes UK who are leading the fight against the UK's biggest growing health crisis!

As much as I love my sport, I've never run a marathon before and this is a huge undertaking for me and to manage my diabetes attempting to complete the distance. I appreciate times are tough at the moment, anything you can donate will be hugely appreciated!!

Ps. If you aren't able to donate, please still create awareness of diabetes and tell friends, family, anyone who will listen about the 4 T's.

Thank you for reading my story and a massive thank you! I'm excited to share with you how I'm doing as I train through the winter months.
