Neighbourhood Watch messaging Hertfordshire Neighbourhood Watch

OWL was used by Hertfordshire Constabulary and local coordinators to communicate with over 200,000 watch members across the county, plus 5,000 businesses. Hertfordshire had the largest Neighbourhood Watch network in the UK with 37% of homes registered on OWL, 14,000 managed watches and over 5,000 volunteer coordinators. 6,500 alerts were published per year that generated 30 million emails and 12 million notifications to users of the OWL mobile app.

OWL is an advanced solution for police & communities to grow and manage Neighbourhood Watch, Business Watch, Dog Watch, Rural Watch and dozens of other schemes. OWL provides members with the latest local alerts and crime prevention advice sent by email, push notifications, telephone or SMS.

It's no longer possible to register on OWL to join Neighbourhood Watch in Hertfordshire. But you can join OWL if you live in London.

Awards

HertsWatch, the umbrella organisation for watch schemes in Hertforshire, received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. The accolade is the equivalent of an MBE for groups and charities.

The use of OWL was crucial in being a secure and easy-to-use platform for the volunteers to have achieved so much. The creator of OWL was also awarded a special badge for being part of the team since day one.

Chair, Sue Thompson, said "We are delighted to receive the award. It reflects the incredible effort that many hundreds of volunteers, from street representatives to Ward Co-ordinators, have given to developing Neighbourhood Watch across the county."
