What jumps to your mind when you hear the word menopause? Do you think about the symptoms? Does the worst-case scenario appear unbidden? Do you know much about it? Either way, the word often paints a pretty bleak picture for most and we tend to avoid it as a topic of conversation.
The irony is that to support anyone going through it, we should be discussing it. Around 50% of the world’s workforce will be going through menopause at some point or another. Whilst, thankfully, it’s becoming less of a taboo topic in the workplace, we still have some ground to cover before we’re all comfortable enough to talk about it openly in order to get the right support in place.
Some of the symptoms such as brain fog, anxiety, and loss of confidence mean those people experiencing these, may not feel brave enough to admit what’s going on for fear of losing their jobs. For others, privacy and discretion may be the overriding factor.
Even though the majority of people who go through menopause may experience menopausal symptoms, there are still plenty of organisations that could be doing more to support them. However, it’s not easy to know where to start, or how to broach the subject!
That’s why we’re here to help!
