About Better Places
It’s not always easy for disabled people to get around and do what they want to do.
There are lots of things that get in the way and stop them. Places could be a lot better.
Better Places are series of children’s picture books, learning resources and content to help children think about how places can be made better for disabled people.
They offer a fun, light-hearted and interactive insight into the everyday barriers disabled people face, with the opportunity for the reader to put them right.

About the author
Ben Andrews is Chief Better Place Maker and author of Better Places picture books. Being registered blind, Ben wrote the books using his ownexperience of how difficult places can make it to get around.
Ben also manages his own Company, Beyond Empower, helping adults make places better, and wanted to reach people with messages of accessibility and inclusion at as young an age as possible.
There’s so many barriers out there that make life harder for disabled peoples, whether it be streets, transport or even school. But it doesn’t have to be like that. Often, it’s the smallest changes that make the biggest difference to people’s lives.
The earlier people are aware of this the better, and that’s where I hope Better Places will help.
Ben’s aspirations for Better Places is that they’ll show children the barriers disabled people experience and that it’s pretty easy to make things better, encouraging a more aware, understanding and better equipped next generation.
