Opportunities with BXC

Would you like to be a part of our programme? From jobs to community projects, we want to make it easier for you to help us build a legacy in Brent Cross and Cricklewood.

The Brent Cross Cricklewood is the biggest redevelopment and growth programme Barnet Council has ever undertaken, and is amongst the most ambitious across Europe. But the project is not just about new homes and facilities, it is about leaving a positive legacy for existing communities. In addition to thousands of jobs building the new park town and Brent Cross West, across the programme we’ll see 27,000 new jobs created in the future. And where possible we hope at least 20% of the people working across the site are local residents of Barnet or the neighbouring boroughs of Brent and Camden.

Apprenticeships with BXC

Brent Cross West station apprentice Matthew Perrin

Brent Cross West station apprentice Matthew Perrin

Apprenticeships are a key part of our commitment to the legacy of the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme. We want to leave a positive legacy of upskilling our young people, meaning they can build their own futures whilst also building a new community.

You can read more about the apprentices who work on the project with our feature on National Apprenticeship Week and the story of Himnish Bhudia.

If you are interested in finding out more about apprenticeships with us, contact us on skills@barnet.gov.uk

And our partners Galldris are recruiting for a new apprentice to join their team as a groundworker on the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme. No qualifications are needed, and Galldris will help the new recruit with the training and qualifying for their CSCS card. Applicants must be aged 18+. Kickstart roles with BXC

The government’s Kickstart Scheme helps employers to create hundreds of thousands of high-quality work placements for young people.

New six-month jobs are created for 16 to 24-year-olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long-term unemployment.

These roles are normally 25 hours per week and pay at least the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage. Plus, the successful recruits will also receive additional employability support to help boost their employment prospects in the future. You can read more about the scheme here.

A number of Kickstart roles are being created across the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme.

Read about three roles which have recently been created on Brent Cross West station here.

Women into construction with BXC

Isa Ribiero

Isa Ribeiro is a Project Manager on Brent Cross Town

We want to challenge the under-representation of women in construction – an industry in which females are outnumbered 7:1 in the UK – by encouraging more of them into careers in the industry.

You can read about some of the female leaders working across the project here.

And you can read individual stories about some of the women who have experienced the UK construction industry on our programme, or found permanent roles, through the Women Into Construction scheme.

This includes the story of Natalia Bokhonko and Leila Sadeghi Bogar, and that of Belul Mesfin.

Community funding opportunities with BXC

The Brent Cross Town Community Fund opened in May for its fifth year, supporting local initiatives and charities.

This year, the Brent Cross Town Community Fund increased to £50,000, supporting local initiatives and charities. The Fund is looking to increase its reach across the community this year, with a focus on supporting groups that offer activities that provide climate education, promote a carbon net zero community; support improved local health and wellness; and promote an inclusive and socially connected community.

The Fund also encourages projects that support communities in tackling cost of living pressures to apply.

Local groups and initiatives based in and around Cricklewood, Childs Hill, Golders Green, and West Hendon were able to apply for grants of anywhere between £500 and £5,000.

Find out who the 2023 winners are here.

Since its launch in 2019, the fund has supported 42 small charities, community organisations and individuals working to make a positive impact in the local area and has awarded £130,000 to local projects. Now with a successful history of local funding, it is estimated that over 14,400 people in the local community have directly benefited from the fund’s investment.

Previous winners include Brent Bulls CIC Basketball Club (pictured) and their work to create a women’s 3×3 basketball tournament as well as basketball club sessions for children at local primary schools, the FUSE Youth Project’s summer programme of youth worker led activities and free meals for young people in West Hendon, and Kisharon’s accredited gardening sessions for adults with learning disabilities with a guaranteed internship at the end of the programme.
