Tiers, Levels, Firebreaks, Circuit Breakers & Lockdowns - The impact

This survey is to find out what impact the most recent lockdowns and new tier/level systems have had and will have on the theatre sector. This is in relation to financial (Capital and revenues), staff furloughed and freelancer contracts cancelled.

Please complete by 17.00hrs, Thursday 10 December.
We have given all respondents the option to complete in all countries in case their work is touring / in more than one location than the one where their company is based. We have separated these out as the tier / levels / lockdowns / circuit breaker etc. are different.
When you come to the tables and the question on number of staff furloughed / freelancer contracts cancelled, please put in the number that relates to those people you would have otherwise reinstated.
Please note: this should only include furlough/contract cancellations as a direct result of that restriction and NOT a cumulative figure since march.
# of perfs. scheduled = number of performances that you had booked in to play in venues affected by the specified tier/level/lockdown prior to that restriction being put into place.
# of perfs. cancelled = number of performances that were affected as a direct result of the venue moving into the specified tier/level/lockdown.
# of staff furloughed = the number of staff that you needed to furlough as a direct result of the specified tier/level/lockdown announcement regardless of whether they were on a a pre-existing furlough.
# of freelance contracts cancelled = the number of freelance contracts that you needed to cancel as a direct result of the specified tier/level/lockdown announcement regardless of whether they were on a a pre-existing furlough.

Examples

For Productions performing at a single venue

For performances taking place in a single venue please list all of your affected performances based on the tier/level/lockdown that your host venue was/is currently in.

For Touring productions - Show A was due to play 4 nights:

- performance 1 in Penzance
- performance 2 in Liverpool
- performance 3 in Manchester
- performance 4 in Glasgow

In the above example you would list the effect of the the Government's actions in the following line items:

- Penzance's performance under 'England tier 1'
- Liverpool's performance under 'England tier 2 '
- Manchester under 'England tier 3'
- Glasgow's performance under 'Scotland tier 4'

Data will be shared externally (with government and other relevant stakeholders). All data will be aggregated and anonymised. If there are specific venue examples that we need to attribute we will seek the venue’s permission beforehand.
